The written examination for Class VIII will be in two stages:

Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise
of two parts, namely

Mental Ability Test (MAT)
- Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics.

- There is no negative marking
- Each right answer is awarded one mark
- Once the students finish the MAT, the SAT is administered after a short break of about 5 minutes.
- Only those candidates who qualify in the written examination at the National Level will be invited for the interview.
